Yvonne M. Cormier was born in November of 1962 in Allentown, Pennsylvania to Thomas E. Cormier Sr and Carolyn (Kimes) Cormier. She attended Panther Valley High School, where she commanded the school’s first Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC). She graduated in June 1980 and enlisted in the Pennsylvania National Guard that Fall, where she served for two years before receiving a 2-year ROTC scholarship at Penn State University. She earned an undergraduate degree in Business Management and was a Distinguished Military Graduate, having commanded Penn
State’s Corps of Cadets. Upon graduation, she was commissioned a Second Lieutenant in the U.S. Army’s Military Police Corps in May of 1984. She later obtained a Masters in Business Administration (MBA) from Syracuse University in 1993, while attending the Department of Defense Comptroller Program.
LTC Cormier’s assignments include:
- Platoon Leader, 284th MP Co; Headquarters’ Detachment Commander and Battalion S-1 for the 709th MP Bn in Frankfurt, Germany;
- Supply, Maintenance, Transportation and Dining Facility Officer (Battalion S-4) for the 519th MP Bn, and Company Commander, US Army Garrison MP Co at Fort Meade, Md;
- Operations & Maintenance Appropriation Budget Officer for Office of the Chief Army Reserve (OCAR) HQs at the Pentagon;
- Attended Command and General Staff College at Fort Leavenworth, KS
- Director of Security, Plans, Operations & Training (Brigade S-3), S. Army Chemical Activity Pacific (USACAP) on Johnston Island
- Budget Officer for the Army Reserve Personnel Command (ARPERCEN) at Louis, MO
- Project Manager & Program Evaluation Director, Department of Defense Inspector General, Pentagon, Crystal City, VA
LTC Cormier is a combat veteran and participated in Operation Just Cause in Panama in 1989 and Operation Desert Shield in Saudi Arabia in 1990.
Her awards & decorations include: Defense Superior Service Medal; Meritorious Service Medal (3rd award); Army Commendation Medal (4th award); Joint Service Achievement Medal; Army Achievement Medal (2nd award); National Defense Service Medal (2d award); Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal; Southwest Asia Service Medal; Army Service Ribbon (2d award); Kuwait Liberation Medal; Global War on Terrorism Service Medal; Parachutist Badge; Air Assault Badge; Office of the Secretary of Defense Identification Badge.
Lieutenant Colonel Cormier retired on July 1, 2004. She currently resides in the United Kingdom with her British spouse, Juliana Freeman. She has seven older brothers and sisters (Tom, Gina, Mike, Steve, Kevin, Anne, and Colette) and thirteen nieces and nephews.
